Empower

Starting the ketogenic diet or any new journey can seem scary and overwhelming. Pompe Warrior Foundation wants to empower patients, families, and individuals to live a healthier lifestyle.  Below you will find information on other companies, organizations, and individuals who are already utilizing new dietary methods for treatment of some diseases.  The information below will also help you find current products, recipes, and informative handouts on how to make realistic and easy changes to your diet. By providing examples of other people living healthier and using current ketogenic options we hope to empower all to make a change.

In 1993, 11 month old Charlie Abrahams developed difficult to control epilepsy. As a last resort, while Charlie was experiencing multiple daily seizures and taking multiple daily medications, his parents turned to a Ketogenic Diet for help. The diet worked. Charlie became seizure and drug free within a month. He was on the diet for five years and now eats whatever he wants. He has never had another seizure.

The Charlie Foundation for Ketogenic Therapies was founded in 1994 to provide information about diet therapies for people with epilepsy, other neurological disorders and select cancers.

LUV Ice Cream is a micro-business dedicated to making delicious ice creams, vegan nice creams, decadently dark chocolates, and hard candies without added sugar or artificial ingredients. LUV treats are also gluten free, soy free and primarily vegan. LUV never uses artificial sweeteners or ingredients and uses plant derived alternatives including organic Stevia and chicory root inulin. Driven by the desire for quality ice cream and nondairy frozen desserts without added sugar or artificial ingredients, Susanna, a fitness professional and student of nutrition, and Ilya, a Ph.D.research scientist and food lover, experimented for months on end. By the fall of 2012 they were making rich and creamy, all natural, gluten free, boldly flavored ice creams and nondairy desserts without sugar! And so, responding to the popular demand of hundreds sampled, Luv Ice Cream was born. Coconut milk is used to make the vegan and delicious nondairy flavors. All are gluten free, respecting those with Celiac Disease and gluten intolerance, soy free, and made from non-GMO ingredients. LUV Ice Cream began in January of 2013 in a shared “incubator kitchen” and the positive response from folks desperate to find no sugar added treats has been overwhelming! In 2015 LUV purchased their very own building in historic North St Paul, MN and set up a production facility. The LUV Ice Cream Café, a sugar free concept shop, opened in 2016 and LUV frozen desserts, chocolates, Sweet Nothing hard candies, and Sweet LUV all natural sugar replacement are sold nationwide online, in independent scoop shops and throughout the Twin Cities in grocery stores. LUV is located at 3011, 2587 7th Ave E, North St Paul, MN 55109.

Throughout this website you will see references to the ketogenic diet. Please be aware that there are many ways to implement a ketogenic diet — not all of which should be considered healthy. The Foundation’s goal is to share the founders’ personal experience using a highly specialized and very closely monitored version of the ketogenic diet as part of the treatment plan for their two-year-old son, Leo. If you or someone you know is battling Pompe disease, or another glycogen storage disease or lysosomal storage disease, we hope that you will find the information provided here useful in discussing the potential for dietary changes with your own doctors and care team as a part of an overall treatment plan.
